Software engineering
More than six years of professional software engineering, including technical leadership, architecture and automated verification, supported by a BSc in Computer Science.
Professional experienceI'm a computer science graduate and software engineer with 6+ years of professional experience, including work as a technical lead and software architect, currently pursuing a Professional Master of Science in Aerospace Engineering at the University of Colorado Boulder. I'm focused on bringing software, control and autonomous-systems thinking into the aerospace domain.
My background sits at the intersection of software engineering and aerospace engineering. I'm particularly interested in systems where algorithms, dynamics and real-world mission constraints meet.
More than six years of professional software engineering, including technical leadership, architecture and automated verification, supported by a BSc in Computer Science.
Professional experienceGraduate coursework in linear control, spacecraft attitude dynamics and control, statistical estimation, and uncrewed aircraft GNC.
Academic foundationInterested in autonomy, estimation under uncertainty, spacecraft dynamics, astrodynamics, navigation and mission operations.
Areas of interestFrom a Swiss software apprenticeship to a computer science degree and now graduate aerospace engineering at CU Boulder. Each step has moved me closer to the work I want to do: guidance, navigation, control and estimation for space systems.
Fully remote graduate program. Working toward completion of the 10-course requirement, with the final two courses expected in Spring 2027.
Sep 2021 – Mar 2025 · Brugg · Final grade: 5.6 / 6.0
Focus on autonomous systems, software architecture, Mars rover software and software testing.
Aug 2016 – Jul 2020 · BMS grade: 5.5 / 6.0
Focus on agile software development, software architecture, systems engineering and networks, alongside the software engineering apprenticeship.
The graduate coursework is building on a computer science foundation with subjects in controls, estimation, spacecraft dynamics, uncrewed systems, navigation and human-spaceflight-related topics.
Professional software engineering experience is the foundation of my transition into aerospace.
Skills from professional software work, robotics competition and graduate aerospace coursework.
Six projects from a planetary rover competition, critical public-sector software and graduate aerospace coursework. Each one covers the problem, what I built or analyzed, and the result, with my own part named on team projects.
Lead navigation systems and software engineer for the FHNW Rover Team. Engineered real-time path planning, motion control and traversal algorithms for the rover using ROS2 and C++. The team placed 2nd in 2023 and won 1st place in 2024.

We linearized the orbital equations of motion into a 4-state linear model, showed it is fully controllable and observable, and designed two controllers — manual pole placement and LQR — plus an observer that rebuilds the full state from radius and angle measurements. My part: the model, the controllability/observability analysis, and both controller designs. Against the 5 s settling requirement, LQR rejected disturbances about twice as fast as pole placement (1.8–2.7 s vs. 4.2 s) while staying within the thruster limits.

Injected GNSS blackout, GNSS spoofing and IMU bias drift across 100-run Monte Carlo sets, and introduced a Time-to-Violation (TTV) metric: the time from sensor failure until the aircraft leaves a safe flight corridor. The EKF held the corridor for the full 50 s nominally, but under spoofing its cross-track TTV fell to 3–5 s, matching the far simpler estimator.

I designed the trajectory in NASA GMAT, built the ΔV budget (8.31 km/s, or 9.14 km/s with a 10% margin, which now sets the propulsion sizing) and wrote most of the second design report, covering the mission concept, phase-by-phase timeline and top-level requirements.

My part: the nonlinear truth simulation, the 1,000-run Monte Carlo used to validate both filters, the NEES/NIS statistical consistency tests, and the final comparison on the provided measurement log. The tuned EKF kept position errors around one meter, inside its ±2σ bounds over the full 14,000 s run, while the linearized filter degraded as the orbit drifted from its reference.
